After the baby elephant was born, they were protected by other elephants on the side until it was sturdy enough to be able to walk. Like other mammals with long lifespans, elephants spend many years caring for their children. Adult elephants are so big that there are no enemies, but the elephants are at risk of being attacked. Baby elephants breastfed for five years and male elephants left the herd when they were thirteen. Elephants grow very slowly and they can live 60 years or even 80 years.
